Example: Ingredient Cost Calculation

For this example we focus on ingredient-level costing and how purchase details affect the final unit cost of each item used in a recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 815 grams Bread Flour
  • 33 milliliter Olive Oil
  • 20 grams Salt
  • 7 grams Yeast

In the "New Ingredient" section, enter only the ingredient name (for example, "Bread Flour"), not the amount and unit. To save time, put each ingredient name on its own line and create them in one step.

Once you entered all the ingredients, go to RECIPES and create a new recipe called "Ciabatta Bread Rolls".

In the recipe, click the "Add Ingredient" button and add them all to the recipe.

Purchases:

You already know the purchase cost for each ingredient and now need to add this information to the ingredients.

  • Bread Flour - $41.99 / 50 pounds
  • Olive Oil - $16.99 / 2 liters
  • Salt - $5.75 / 2 pounds
  • Yeast - $5.13 / 113 grams

Our recipe cost calculator will now be able to calculate each ingredients cost on the recipe. When you specify the resulting amount of the recipe (4 servings) the calculator automatically divides the cost to each roll.
