How to Add Nutritional Information

Summary: The PLUS account has the feature to calculate a Nutritional Summary of a recipe. This is a simple calculation of the nutritional values of all included ingredients that have a link to a USDA ingredient and can be converted to a weight measurement. While this calculation is not 100% accurate (especially for recipes were a part will be removed after cooking, like gravies), it can give a good summary for most recipes.

In addition to having nutritional information, many of the USDA ingredients also have measurement converters attached to them.

On the Ingredient: The first step for adding nutrition to a recipe is to link your ingredients to a USDA entry. COOKKEEPBOOK will try to always have the latest USDA information available.
To link the ingredient, go to the ingredient and open the "Nutrition Database" section.

To search the database, the search field will be prepopulated with the name of the ingredient. This may need to be translated to English (if different language is being used) or may need to be changed until a USDA entry is found.
Press the button to start the search.

Skip to next ingredient without nutrition data.

In most cases, the top 10 returned entries will have the correct one displayed. Click the one you would like to link to and a prompt will appear to confirm the selection. Once the link has been established, the Nutrition Section will refresh with the linked entry and additional information such as the Basic Nutrition, the Waste (Yield) percentage and Measurement Converters will appear.

Measurement Converters:

To unlink an ingredient, simply press the Unlink button and confirm the action. This will remove the USDA entry link.

If there is a need to manually adjust the USDA information (slight difference) the 'Manual Edit' button will bring up all the nutritional value fields. These can then be hand-edited and a new custom entry will be saved. This does not edit the actual USDA data.

Manual Entry: At times, an ingredient does not have a USDA entry to link to. If the nutritional values of the ingredients are known then these can be entered through the 'Manual Entry' button (the button appears before the ingredient is linked to a USDA entry).

Manual entries can also be helped with the Label Import Wizard. Press the button at the top right entitled 'Label Import Wizard' and a pop-up will appear that shows basic nutrition label fields. Copy the values from the label into the wizard and press 'Calculate'. The wizard will fill in the most common fields in the nutrition information.

On Recipe:

Once all ingredients are linked to USDA entries or manual nutritional entries were created, the Nutrition Section on the recipe will try to calculate the overall nutritional summary of the recipe.
